Inspired by a speech by Mulky Karnad Sadashiva at the Gandhi Maidan during the freedom struggle in 1936, Sanjeevanath Aikala joined the freedom movement. Sanjeevnath Aikala was born in 1921 in the Aikala Bhava family. He pursued his education at Niddodi Sathyanaryana Higher Primary School, and then at Mulky Government Model High School. During the same time he joined the freedom struggle. In 1940 he moved towards Bellary to pursue Ayurveda studies with Pandith Tharanath.
